Almost all the companies are brokers, they do not own their trucks. The broker simply posts your move using your two ZIP codes and the dollar amount; which they decide; on an internet board. Often a broker will quote you a low amount to get your listing, then give you some bad news stories so you then increase your costs. Posted trucker fees which are too low are ignored by truckers. Brokers fees range from $100 to $400 and up. I got quotes from twenty brokers, and then asked them how the costs are split. Eventually you will see a pattern of how much the brokers think it will take to get interest from a trucker to make the move. If you are far off their routes, like away from major interstate highways, the truckers will look for more money. Then I asked the brokers to decrease their fees by $25, and add that amount to the truckers fee. Everyone of them agreed to that. My move from AZ to FL was $850 ($725 to the trucker; $125 to broker). I could have bargained many brokers down to $100, all they do is post the listing. The amount of money going to the trucker is key. Gordo
